Elder Abuse Awareness Month Financial Abuse

May is Elder Abuse Awareness Month. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration on Aging, in 2009 there were 39.6 million Americans age 65 or older. Over the next 10 years, the number of people 65 or older will increase by almost 30 percent according to National Public Radio Business. By 2030, less than 20 years from now, there will be about 72.1 million people in that category. Medicine and scientific improvements are helping people live longer lives, but certain aspects of aging are still not amenable to treatment.

Delaying medical care after accident can be a painful mistake

Victims of any accident may try to minimize the severity of their injuries. They may just want to put an incident behind them and just try to move on. However, seeking medical help after a car accident, slip-and-fall accident or any other type of painful injury suffered as a result of another party's negligence can be crucial in establishing the extent of physical damage that has been suffered.

At this point we don't know if the dog had a history of violent behavior, or if this was a one-time occurrence. But, it does bring up some interesting questions about liability.
