19-car crash in San Bernardino County ends in numerous injuries

Shortly after 9 am on January 16, 2019, a 19-car crash took place on the southbound 15 Freeway in San Bernardino County, just south of Oak Hills, causing that side of the freeway to be shut down. Residents of Riverside County may have heard of the event or experienced the traffic jam that it led to. There were no fatalities, but according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, 35 people suffered minor to moderate injuries.

The victims were triaged at the scene. Most declined to be transported to a hospital, but officials do not know how many exactly were sent to hospitals for treatment. A preliminary report has been completed so far, and an investigation is forthcoming.

Though the cause of the crash has yet to be identified, the Fire Department believes that weather may have been a contributing factor. Videos from the crash scene show that there was dense fog that morning.

It would not be surprising to find out that driver negligence is behind the accidentDrivers should know that in foggy, rainy or snowy weather, they should slow down and increase their distance from the vehicle in front. Avoiding distractions is essential in any weather. If drivers fail to keep their vehicles under control, though, they will be to blame for any accidents they cause.

Victims of auto accidents are often left with medical bills, the need for rehabilitative care, vehicle damage, lost wages and sometimes even a diminished capacity to earn a living. They could be covered for these and other losses, though, if they file a personal injury claim against the responsible party's auto insurance company. It might be a good idea to hire a lawyer for the process. A lawyer may bring in investigators to gather proof before starting negotiations for a fair settlement.
